This course provides an introduction to the democratic system of governing people in Canada. It includes a description of the organization of the three levels of government: federal, provincial and municipal. The interaction of each government level, democratic electoral systems and legislative processes are also discussed. The course includes the responsibilities of each level of government, the daily problems and issues facing Canadian citizens, and the impact on law enforcement by public opinion, the media and special interest groups.
Political Science - NGO project
The NGO Project for Politics class was an interesting project that involved students researching an NGO and showing a presentation to the class. Our chosen NGO was the David Suzuki Foundation which focuses on preserving the natural environment. We educated the class about the history, mission, fundamentals, and success of this NGO. It was a great assignment that really helped teach me the importance of our natural environment. I chose this as an artifact because it was the most important project within this course and it was worth a very large portion of our final mark. The experience I got out of this was how to use professional sources to create a reasonable presentation of accurate information, this was due to the strict guidelines on this project.
Course Reflection
Political Science was overall a great experience for me, I enjoyed the course a lot. My professor was a very interesting guy who taught some very valuable information about the Canadian government and other global governments as well. The course deeply explored the topic of politics and I learned a lot that would benefit me a lot in the long run. The workloads were very light and the work that was given was always fun to complete. I did expect a little bit more stimulation in this class which I was really disappointed with, but that aside this was a great class.
